Ms J Comedy in Schenectady is a clean stand‑up comedy business led by senior comedian Ms Sylvia Jimison, our award‑winning performer with more than fifteen years onstage. We focus on profanity‑free stand‑up for adults and seniors, including private events, corporate entertainment, and comedy workshops. Audiences get relatable stories about work, family, and aging, all shaped by Sylvia's background in academia and nonprofit leadership.
One Class Turned Into Years Of Laughter
Our story starts with Sylvia taking one stand‑up class and hearing a roomful of strangers cheer. Before that, she interned at NBC in the 1990s and sat in the audience at Saturday Night Live, studying timing while pretending she was just laughing. Years later, she won Funny Bone's 2019 Clash of the Comics, appeared in Listen to Your Mother, and produced Oldies But Goodies for seasoned comics.
A Remarkable Life With Plenty Of Punchlines
We like to say Sylvia has lived the material. She is a three‑time fellow, a NYS 2024 Woman of Distinction, a retired college director and associate academic dean, and a former leader of a five‑county nonprofit. Now she writes grants by day and jokes by night, turning everything between retirement paperwork and stressed‑out squirrels into clean, bright comedy that keeps adults and seniors laughing together.

Ms. Sylvia Jimison is a recently retired three-time fellow and NYS 2024 Woman of Distinction awardee. In her career, she has served as Director and Associate Academic Dean at various colleges and universities. She has also led a five-county nonprofit organization. She now uses her skills to write grants for small and underfunded nonprofit organizations. For fun, Ms. Jimison does stand-up and has won “Clash of the Comics” at Funny Bone comedy club. She beat out 9 other comics during the competition.
